The area is relatively shallow along with certain shape/contours of this portion of Cape Cod Bay & strong tides can leave these animals stranded. They are social & may follow a group leader(s) as well. There are also other potential factors. The area has a long history of these types of strandings.

The squid eggs have arrived in Nantucket Sound, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Female Atlantic longfin squid can lay ~30 egg capsules on the ocean floor in clusters often called β€œmops”. These were retuned to the sea πŸ¦‘πŸŸπŸŒŽ

Not arguing whatsoever- this species is seasonally in temperate waters and we have worked with this and related ocean sunfish species for 3+ decades in both temperate and tropical waters. Of course climate change influences this and other marine species and our directed research supports that.
