As the Isle of Wight festival opens today, we remember what is perhaps the most iconic performance of them all. Jimi Hendrix played to 600,000 people (around 6 times that of the island's population) in August of 1970. It was to be his last public performance in the UK.

Ralph Goings was an American painter closely associated with the Photorealism movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was best known for his highly detailed paintings of hamburger stands, pick-up trucks, and California banks, portrayed in a deliberately objective manner.

Broadway Cemetery, not far from where I grew up in Galveston. It's not Père Lachaise or even Highgate but it's really cool. I spent many a time walking around there, conversing with the spirits. It's been listed with the National Register of Historic Places since 2014.

The GH&H Railroad Depot, built in 1904, in Galveston. Billed at the time as one of the handsomest & most substantial of its kind, it was built with the capacity to handle the entire annual cotton crop of Texas. This is the building where my father worked until his retirement from the GH&H in 1976
