Ground my way through it, bored and resentful (this was before I learned it was ok to give up on books) and needed several months to get back to reading. Re-entered via fun, plotty, YA when I finally felt strong enough to open a book again

I feel your pain - including being forced to read Cider With Rosie at school, which I have never gone back to. It’s probably good.

Haven't read Murukami since, although I occasionally pick Wind Up Bird Chronicles off the shelf in a fit of wistful nostalgia for the early thrill, before deciding I'm still not ready and shelving it again
