IMS was an issue through the end of the 986s and into the early 987s. Late production 2005 cars have the revised bearing, so all 2006s through 2008s are fine (or, at least, much less prone). They eliminated the IMS completely in 2009

The 3.2s apparently don’t really have the bore scoring issue and if I’m honest have better throttle response than the DFI cars (though obv not as fast). A 2006 3.2S might be the best of breed, and I say that independent of having owned just that car
