This is a broader issue, too, though I agree it is more acute as software plays a bigger role in cars. But look at parts availability generally; how long do OEMs commit to stocking parts? IIRC someone told me for GM it was 10 years; not sure if that’s changed.

“Former” is useful because it helps the reader understand the person’s relevance; obviously less important for someone like Trump but “former Ambassador to the UN Haley” is useful context. But it can often be better done with a note: “Ms. Haley, who served as UN Ambassador under Trump…”

I don’t think it’s unrelated, in that safe districts in the US tend to be a vehicle for the same kind of fringe effects (Boebert, MTG) that small parties provide elsewhere. A GOP house beholden to four or five extremist votes is in a similar type of position that Likud is in Israel

Yeah you get fringe parties who either have no role in government or end up being critical coalition partners and have an outsized role in government. Every now and then a mainstream party collapses and the fringe parties become mainstream

Yeah, the issue comes when you design a car for one and try and fit the other. EU plates are way more legible and if I were in charge we’d just adopt that size in the States. US license plates are barely readable, esp with all the custom colors and graphics states do these days

The 3.2s apparently don’t really have the bore scoring issue and if I’m honest have better throttle response than the DFI cars (though obv not as fast). A 2006 3.2S might be the best of breed, and I say that independent of having owned just that car

IMS was an issue through the end of the 986s and into the early 987s. Late production 2005 cars have the revised bearing, so all 2006s through 2008s are fine (or, at least, much less prone). They eliminated the IMS completely in 2009
