When I was a museum curator, we knew this as 'off-gassing'. It's why you don't store lead objects in oak boxes, for example, because you end up with a box of lead oxide.

This is good but Glyndebourne was better! I didn't know the opera until Tuesday night, except this aria slightly. All the performers were incredibly strong & the staging & choreography were brilliant & witty. Cleo was a soprano and Sesto an alto which I think I prefered to having all countertenors.

I use the Internet Archive archive.org a great deal to access out of copyright material and it's brilliant but uploaders sometimes abuse it to steal from producers. Over the weekend, my publisher had to instruct it to take down a book of mine which only came out in May of this year! 😬

It's the reason I listen to Through the Night during the day. It's the perfect classical music radio - no trailers, complete minimum of talking, no news bulletins, no showtunes, jazz, film or game scores. I'm enjoying it while it lasts because I know it can't.
