Sometimes I think about the fact that 7.1 million houses in the US are "second homes" and we only have ~650K unhoused people. If you own more than one house all of your extra properties should be taxed at astronomical rates. There's no reason so many people should be living on the streets.

If cities were to just check on homestead exemption for the second houses for these rental properties, so many landlords would be forced to sell. It is insane that cities have let this go on.

That's not even accounting for the fact that 16 million homes in the US are completely vacant. There is absolutely no excuse for homelessness in the year of our lord 2024. Ban corporations from owning homes.
