Polling mutuals here:
AlmaLinux or RockyLinux for a hosting server?
I'm leaning towards one but curious what & why folks I know might recommend one over the other.

Oh no, the alt text ended up saying “Mad Max: Furry Road”. I’m not even mad. A good portion of Bluesky would have loved that movie. 😅

Ah, I see what you mean! As I understand it oauth 2 is on the roadmap!

Yeah. Requiring users to register on Bluesky is a bit of a hassle. If they ever support popular social auth providers that will help.
I’ve considered making a simpler custom comment system with pre-moderation feature to allow anonymous comments. But I really enjoy Bluesky as a social platform.

I’ve also not kept up to date with new changes like labeling and probably some other stuff. Essentially my content system will always support just a subset of the full experience.

Weird, you should be able to reply directly from the comment system. That you have to log in is (was?) a limitation in the Bluesky PDS requiring login before you could fix posts. This might have changed so will have to look into that!

Would pudding work as a wobbly and elastic form of white space? 🤔 I’m ready for bouncy paddings when you stop scrolling.

I’m in the camp of people considering self hosting, but I’ve not yet made up my mind. I already host a feed generator server and honestly don’t want more maintenance work related to ATProto for now. On the other hand, self hosting is good for spreading power and data. 🤔

Technically September is early fall I guess. Anyhow. Performance might not be great on the older iPhones, but at least you get the new features and security updates. And it increases resale/reuse value so the phone can get a new life if you want the latest greatest.

Say what you want about Apple, but at least they release OS updates to older phones. The iPhone 11 is from summer of 2019, almost five years old at this point!
When I had Android phones (LG, Samsung, whatever) support seemed to drop after about two and a half years max.

We definitely need to start teaching some simple programming and scripting at the school level. We also need to keep exposing girls to nice women role models in the industry. Girl Tech Fest and the like will hopefully have an impact.

It doesn't help that lots of laypeople, especially boomers, equate digital competence with being able to swipe and click around a mobile app. "Oh the young generations are so good with computers" they exclaim, all the while lots of younger people couldn't explain how any of the things they use work.

Same. Privacy is the big differentiator. And the tight OS integration.
