I was a public defender for 25 years and still hate every single time I had a client with a winnable case who we couldn't get out of jail and so they pleaded out. It's the client's call and the lawyer's not the one sitting in jail. But it sucks, sucks, sucks. It shouldn't work that way.

It definitely shouldn't. man's whole life was ruined. We found this guy not guilty. It took us longer to fill out the paperwork than it did to reach the verdict. I was young, about 25 when this happened. I've never looked at our system the same since.
