Similarly, the torch of Futurism passed from Italy to Russia because the Italian Futurists all signed up to die at the Isonzo in WW1 while the Russian Futurists were anti-war and survived.

I have always read that Italian Futurism “died” in the war, but never considered how literal it was meant.
