In college, I regularly drove from Oberlin to NYC and back. 500 miles or eight hours is about as long as I ever wanted to drive without stopping when I was 21, and that's still true today. Truckers can go much longer, but most "civilians" need a break after that long, and justifiably so.

It's so much time sitting in one position paying attention to the world. I don't think civilians realize how far and how long it takes to drive 500 miles.
