One reason why I like the depiction of the quotes better in the book is this quote happens in the shire before frodo agreed to the quest, right after gandalf explains how the forces of darkness are mustering and how little hope there is but ultimately we still have our duty to better this world

The climb is steep but ultimately it's a trek we have to make or fail trying. I think it's fine good whatever to feel fear and doubt and frustration but we should never lose sight of hope, and if that's not enough let spite carry you through.

One of my favorite quotes in LotR comes from Gandalf & unfortunately never made it into the movie. It feels important because it's Gandalf directly addressing Theoden & says flat out that he can't help those that don't ask for it, who have lost themselves to apathy/despair, and who won't listen.
