Maybe I just have an overly sensitive ear on this stuff, but feels to me that UK political commentatory is lousy with euphemisms about Sunak’s shortcomings as a “message-carrier” (not wrongly).
And in general, centrist or “Starmerite” commentators have tended to have a monomania on, for instance, the idea that Sunak’s loss to Liz Truss was primarily about race, something we have good evidence was not the case.
Pointing out the racism (and xenophobia, and general intolerance of difference) opens a whole can of worms that muddies the discourse. It's easier to dance around the issue with mealy-mouthed euphemisms. Especially if you are a white male, which a lot of media commentators are
