I had to commemorate 12:07 pm on Friday, June 14–the exact moment I heard a selection from the Rolling Stones’ Flashpoint album in the wild since its April 1991 release.

It's excellent. A lot of Swamp Dogg albums are a bit messy--usually in good ways--but this is a pretty tight record.

Good analogy. Sometimes, I have a hard time gauging how widely some of these stories penetrate the collective consciousness due to the constant digital churn of the news cycle.

Excellent point! It absolutely could’ve been a factor in the reception to new Black Keys projects.

You’re right, nobody knows for sure and there are many possible ways to take it. There’s so much material throughout the decades that turning it into four films can be a real challenge.

That's possible! I do wonder how many people at large hear stories/scandals like that--it could be an incident that only musicheads hear, not the average punter.

I had the same assumption--and thought that four films would not be enough to cover the complicated relationships of the ensuing decades--but something I read persuaded me that they'll be calling it a day in early 1970. I assume you want to end it when all four Beatles are still young and alive.

Almost certain it's going to be John (early years), Ringo (Beatlemania), Paul (Swinging London/Revolver & Pepper), George (Breakup).

Oh the irony of being dropped by your major label after releasing a single called "I Like Where This Is Going."

I read the 1987 edition every time I was in a Waldenbooks for a couple years (not sure why I didn’t buy it, probably was saving the money for music).

I’m a big Hoyt fan but it’s been a while since I’ve done a deep dive in his career so it’s not ringing any bells. It does intrigue me, however!

I can’t imagine who they think the audience for this could possibly be. Anybody who still loves Steve Marriott in 2024 would be repelled and there’s no way they can snag new listeners with faked recordings.

Steve Marriott is a particularly terrible choice to be subjected to generative AI. Not only was he a vibrant, passionate performer, he’s been gone so long that there’s no real commercial potential for these faked recordings—they’d only wind up blemishing his legacy.
