Table space is just too limited and I tend to be a really mobile DM. I like to be standing, making hand motions and gestures, and shifting around the table to help players and move pieces on the map. I might need to put together a nice DM binder or something.

Despite having bought myself a really nice hand-made wooden Dungeon Master screen earlier this year, I think I'm going to stop using one. I always cart one out to my in-person games and the more I use it the more I think it just kind of gets in the way.

Maybe yeah. I know the long-term project nature of fiction is really hard for me. Most of the fiction pieces I have managed to finish have been around 2,000 words tops. I'm really banking on that whole "he finally found success later in life" thing. 😅

I feel like I might be one of those guys who "wants to have written" fiction but really struggles to actually do it. Writing other content is just much more... fun(?) for me. I don't know if that makes any sense, hahaha.

The problem I often fall into is that I am super enthusiastic when I start a fiction project, but very quickly slide into a negative spiral that can leave me in a very bad place in terms of mood/mental health. At the same time, NOT doing it feels like giving up on something I'm "supposed" to do?

I feel like I will always, ALWAYS circle back to my failure to do much with fiction. It is an area that I have aways really wanted to work in, but every time to do more than a few thousand words, I find I'm really poorly suited to it. I think I just need to learn to live with that disappointment.

When I'm not in a self-deprecating mood, I can acknowledge that I've enjoyed some solid successes as a writer. I've done games journalism, narrative design, marketing, poetry, and even got to write a major chunk of a book about one of my favorite gaming systems.

I have said as much in other corners of the interwebs. Biden isn't perfect and yeah, that debate was bad, but he's clearly not stepping aside and the endless hand-wringing is just serving to bolster Trump. We need to move on and focus on hammering away at the message of "Trump is doom."

As way of contrast, Vermont recently passed laws strengthening libraries. We actually just received an email from our local library, informing us that since our oldest is turning 12, they no longer need to let us see what books they take out anymore and can opt out of us getting parent emails.

I would never try to downplay what's happening or the challenges we could face. I know that just by virtue of being who I am (cis white guy), I'm not in the same danger as some. But I am also trying no to despair, because history never stops and even if they win, no one says it has to be forever.

That was hard to hear and it made so sad for her. At the same time, I try to hold to heart that she made it through her dark times and lived a long life where she found happiness, had (7) children, and enjoyed the love of countless friends and grandchildren.

My Gran grew up in England during the Blitz and enlisted into the army as a nurse at age 16. She witnessed terrible things on a scale that I can't even imagine. Before she passed away last year, she told me that the news was hard to watch because "it looks like the dark times are coming back."

What else is there to say about this week of Supreme Court nonsense that hasn't been said by smarter more articulate people? The powers that control the court have laid their hand bare. We have few options ahead of us to make it better. Vote in November so we at least have SOME chance of that.

I like a good album too, but one thing I have appreciated is how much less filler there is when the indie musicians I like only release songs 1-2 at a time. There are several bands I enjoy where I don’t really skip any of their songs.
