Social media transformed the internet from an infinite encyclopedia to the worst part of highscool (cliques and popularity contests). It's darkest timeliness level shit, paving paradise to put up a parking lot level shit. Potentially one of the greatest waste of potential of all time.

...without being aware why they are doing that. They're just replicating what they see succeed. That's the perfect situation for someone to create content that is very inappropriate for their target demographic. That's very toxic and very dangerous.

So, the thing about platforms run by algorithms is that the content/people who rise to the top are the ones that appeal to the largest portion of the user base. That sounds fine on paper in a vacuum, but say a platform is used mostly by children. You get adults performing for babies...

Now that Bluesky is open to all I'm seeing so many of these "Artists! Let's all share our work!" threads Listen. I'm sure many mean well, but many more are just exploiting your desire to be seen to inflate the engagement on their own profile to make themselves more attractive to the algorithm.

I recall a prominent case where a famous author (whose work was adapted into a very popular TV series) defended his blatant plagiarism (entire passages, pages long sometimes) by saying that the passage was good, and would be doomed to obscurity had he not rescued it...
