yeah, the spec is quite complex because itās designed by committee, aspiring for a single port to hypothetically do anything. no mechanism to enforce standardsāin practice, everything is economics, so cheap device development and cables (+apple losing billions in lightning licensing) causes bad UX.

the c-to-c failure thing happens when manufacturers leave out a required resistor. an a-to-c cable provides 5v always, but c-to-c requires a super simple test before turning on 5v. these manufacturers changed the device port without actually implementing the most basic way to do usb-c for power. š

i donāt think thatās true. usb-c pd (1.0) was finalized in 2014, formally adopted in 2016, and nintendo switch was first released in 2017. the first usb-c laptops were released in 2015 (and they had spec compliant implementations).
