Sometimes I think fantasy characters who are devoted to cruel, uncaring gods that only acknowledge them if they succeed are unrealistic, and then I remember how many people more or less worship capitalism.

Yeah, but a god that literally kill their own worshippers if they fail it? Hmmm. Okay. But some of these Gods literally want to destroy the world! Oh, right. But the fact remains, Capitalism doesn't want to turn into a giant snake. Unrealistic.
