TV episodes that follow the Hangover/Dude, Where's My Car? format of characters trying to piece together events they don't remember from the night before. I can only think of Red Dwarf's "Thanks for the Memory" but there's got to be others, right?

This feels like it'd be a good trick for when the narrative's getting lost in the long grass. I'm going to give it a try.

Editors and other word pedants, help. If something belongs to a (singular) species, where do I put the apostrophe?

These days I am busy enough that the job bulletins I'm subscribed to are mostly just to give me something to delete from my inbox. Which is handy, because they're getting fucking depressing:

A good partner for this is to watch Scavengers Reign on Netflix and then get in the shower and just scrub and scrub and scrub until you don't have any skin left.

Alien Clay by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Need to take a break from reading Adrian for a bit- he's that dangerous combo of readable, good and prolific that is simply unfair to other writers. But this one is a great combo of revolution, alien mystery and outright body horror.

Nah, when you're writing that sort of thing you can just make stuff up. The readers aren't as attentive and detail orientated as SFF genre fans.

In the foreword to the map of Ankh Morpork, the writer tells a story about Pratchett saying the first question to ask when designing a fantasy city is "How does the clean water get in and sewage come out?" What I have since realised is this also applies to designing aliens and fantasy creatures.

Went out for lunch so missed Keir's first speech has PM, but I'm guessing he ripped his shirt open to reveal a Chez Guevara T-shirt, announced "That's it comrades, the Revolution is ON!" then tapped his earpiece to say "Come home Jezza - we're in."

I get that the health concerns are real, and all the people calling for another candidate to step in. I just find it bizarre that there are people undecided between Trump and Biden that might be swayed because of this.

I know we've got our own problems in the UK today, but are there really any actual real life American voters who aren't sure whether vote Trump or Biden and are deciding to go for Trump because he seems more healthy? Is this a real dealbreaker for literally anyone?

It's hard to tell from the graph, the dip seems to match the dawn of nuclear weapons and the decline of the British empire (and then Vietnam, climate change, Watergate etc etc.) Is that blue dip showing a lack of foresight, or is it people starting to be critical of stuff they should be critical of?

Is there anything quite so whiny, self-pitying and yet undeserving of sympathy as a writer who needs to write one story but finds it hard because they want to be writing another story? "Oh no! I'm stuck playing the wrong Let's Pretend!" Pathetic. Grow up.
