I hate people who think they can diagnose either candidate here remotely and probably find it offensive for the same reason you do (personal experience). There is so much ridiculous confirmation bias going on.

I've already seen people in the media dissecting transcripts and a small snippet where hes thinking very carefully how to phrase stuff as though its completely incomprehensible when it really wasnt.

One thing that I have found jarring is that I haven't seen any progressive elected Dems talk about Biden at all, even those who have huge issues with his Gaza policies. Maybe they have realized that panicking and punching yourself in the face repeatedly is stupid as hell?

Mt Etna seems crazy right now. I visited there one time in the 90s and stayed with some relatives in Zafferana Etnea they took me for a drive and we looked at some of the lava formations. It must be a scary feeling to actually see it erupt live right there now.

One thing that is reassuring is witnessing a peaceful handover of power and no one even thinking to question the results of an election. I hope the UK (and Australia) can keep up that even with all the flaws that both of our democracies have, the alternative is unthinkable.

I'm never gonna argue with someone who says they won't vote or will throw it away but but said people should work on reforming a system that doesn't work (maybe try ranked choice voting or proportional) instead of assuming what will rebuilt after it all falls apart will be good.

Ive been watching the old UK “The World at War” docu from 1973 and the ep about the US starts off with a nazi rally in NYC populists making isolationist speeches and talking about the “America First” movement. It hit hard.
