Honestly the whole left particularly post 90's is too into spontaneity. True anon had a rly good episode interviewing a journalist who covered the modern history of spontaneous protest movements and their failings, I should get his book

it’s not just the left. i would have to think this through more, but i think america tends to valorize 2 states: the “flashbulb moment where truth reveals itself” & “it’s always been this way.” broadly, as a nation, we’ve never really put much stock in “we’ve been working on this.”
