Same thing for blm. There was mass support for demacarceration, defending the police and redistribution wealth to poor black communities. Popular support mostly began to fade when it looked like blm was only about having a black section on YouTube and non profit corruption scandals towards the end.

I earnestly believe that this has way less to do with people actually hating undocumented people and more that people have just been given no other political solution for the past 8 years. I remember the mass turn out af the airport shutdown under trump and the Ayotzinapa solidarity march.

The interesting thing is all of this sort of game theory of trust and tit for tat relationships shows in basically every social organism. Robert sapolsky's lectures talks about this, I highly recommend them.

Honestly social media or any unmediated public form really isn't going to be good at facilitating mutual aid anyway. We really need to figure out how to build mutual aid organizations that don't devolve into discord cults where everyone empties their bank account for one or two of the mods

This is partially the logic behind why debt financing education is a good idea/why nafta is good because all of those factory workers can learn to code. It's absurd on its face and I'm glad more young people realize that college/college prep bases education is a scam

I think of it is partly the delusion that everyone can be work an office job and everyone else who graduated can either time the labor market right to be q coder or an engineer or that they won't mind being under paid in the "do gooder" fields.

So glad that I checked so I didnt end up like that other woman I saw months ago who received a life-ruining increase in payments on SAVE. This would have also fucked up my mortage eligibility as well so bullet dodge. You can always assume any new program in this country will fuck you over

Spent over an hour on the phone with the government about my student loan (not their fault, it seems my phone has a bug where the audio on my end stops working when I go on hold even when I return to the call) and I confirmed that yes, in fact the SAVE program would almost double my monthly payment.
