I'm doing my mandatory public speaking class final today. it's a persuasive speech and i chose to speak about gender stuff. pretty nervous about it. been rehearsing and testing my powerpoint on the projector all day. watching this video while eating lunch was a very welcome break. tysm

Numitrons were designed to be used with a filter in front of them. this solves the issues you talked about. they were very popular in avionics displays because they can handle extreme temperatures and vibration, unlike the other technologies (including early LED displays, which were unreliable).

Great video. A quick improvement would be a flat black background, as you said. On the background, I would print or mask white or silver lines behind the filaments. This would reflect the filament's back light. The line would appear wider that just the filament and boost the contrast.

Watching this vid reminded me that the magnifying bubble strips for early-gen LED displays are also the thumb switch on the original prop for Luke/Anakins lightsaber

Another thing for the, "damn that's neat, I want one...but I have no use for/place to put it" list.
