I promise I’m not trying to be reflexively contrary but in NC (my state), the signs are back, as are Trump 2024 bumper stickers. Hard to say if there are as many as in 2020 but still a considerable # of signs. Granted, it’s election season, but . . .

I see where you’re coming from but the polls, imperfect as they are, show consistent strength relative to other candidates. It’s hard for me to square that with the notion of him being spectacularly unpopular.

In 2020 an old friend (now a MAGA-pilled cop) shared his MAGA friend’s FB post about how GA rejected her absentee ballot sent from a military base. The suggestion was that democrats were suppressing MAGA votes. She had a Latinx last name and the ballot was sent to a deep red county. Do the math.

That is definitely arguable but his long career happened in a very specific place and I’m not sure he would have the same allure in other states. But I guess this is all beside the point as Manchin isn’t in the mix. Good grief though, the thought of Manchin on a ticket makes me sick.

More people should be talking about Pritzker, even though I like Whitmer too. Newsom should never be discussed as a presidential candidate. Ever. But yeah, the only Biden replacement scenario that seems viable is if Harris emerges as the *consensus* pick and I don’t see that happening.

Biden can step aside and that’s just the beginning. The next crucial question is whether the party coalesces around Harris. *I* believe that will lead to protracted chaos in the Dem party and the Dem presidential campaign. That leads to losing. Yeah it seems impossible to quantify. I am not a big-brained pundit and I’m honestly not qualified to predict anything, but as a guy who much preferred alternatives to Biden way back when, I’m surprised at myself for feeling the debate performance, while awful, didn’t “change everything” overnight.

There is no “mechanism” and there’s no “who will win?” equation to plug numbers into. Trump has a clear chance of winning no matter who the Dem nominee is. At this moment, it seems best for Biden to stay the course simply because the chaos involved in replacing him would make losing more likely.
