Thomas Gladysz - reader, writer, arts enthusiast, pop culture archeologist & silent film buff. Director of the LBS™ (est. 1995). Author of "The Street of Forgotten Men: From Story to Screen and Beyond" and four other books.
San Francisco Silent Film Festival asked me to suggest 5 silent films I’d like to share with others. My list was posted on the SFSFF Instagram account, alongside the lists of other film historians, writers, critics, contemporary movie directors, and even a Doctor Who! www.instagram.com/sfsilentfilm/

Happy birthday to author, film historian, documentary film maker, and Academy Award honoree Kevin Brownlow. I will always appreciate the time he invited me to visit his London flat to talk about Louise Brooks, and the foreword he wrote to my most recent book.

For all my life I've had to share my birthday with Groundhog's Day. Happy Groundhog's Day to everyone (except for the miserable troll trying and failing to make my life miserable. His actions are why I no longer have my Facebook, Instagram & Twitter pages. ) Did I see my shadow?

One book I received for Xmas is "Młoda Polska" - a multi-lingual art book about Polish fin de siecle art. Its title translates as "Young Poland," which was the name of the modernist period in Polish visual arts, literature and music between the years between 1890 and 1918.

Some of the year end treats purchased at our local East European market -- Berlin Rye, herring, curly sausage, Polish butter, pickled cherry tomatoes, wafer cookies, etc... This store has a whole section devoted to pickles (oh my) and cabbages as big as basketballs. Happy holidays to one and all.
