definitely about power over class. but i think it’s a mistake to assume it would ever touch class, because i cannot possibly imagine gilroy or his room were dying to tell a class struggle story. but they do all have histories writing about the kind of people who would choose to confront power.

but that’s the point: leftism is class struggle, not power politics. I don’t think they need to tell that story, I just don’t think it’s particularly leftist without it. maybe left informed?

i can’t speak to the people who’ve picked it up as a signifier besides me. i know a lot of star wars world hates it because it’s too…grounded, for lack of a better world. i absolutely adore it. but i’m also no stranger to fans of a thing who turn it into a shibboleth making it worse than it is.
