Challenge: cisticolas. Small, drab tan birds, over 50 species, many can only be identified by their call. And you’re in Africa and the bird guide is telling you to ignore the giraffes to pay attention to these sparrow like birds you can only get a glimpse of. Friend, I ignored the cisticolas

Somewhere there is a photo Kevin took from the back of the safari vehicle where everyone is on one side looking at elephants and I’m on the other side with binoculars out, trying to spot a bird.

my experience in Africa was when we were on our later safari and we had a local guide plus two Spanish birders they were like 'can we do birds' and since we'd already seen what we came for, we were like 'sure!' the guide and the birders challenged 'first spotter' and they were A Match 1/2
