I do not know who told you this, but they were incorrect. Brains are not run on algorithms. They’re not even that much LIKE algorithms. Brains can skip steps, break rules, change rules, and even conceive of what will happen if rules are followed without actually running the process.

Brains don't work on algorithms unless you define the term so loosely that it's not really a useful term anymore. Just because genAI (sometimes) produces similar results to humans does not mean that it achieves those results in the same way.

There is no particular reason to think this. It’s one hypothesis for how human cognition works, but there’s not really any especially compelling evidence that points to it over other models of cognition.
