So the only question becomes "did he inherit his father's litigiousness." You suspect Todd McFarlane would say yes.

Because a public inquiry designed to have optics but no consequences is far less dangerous than a private action from a Scientology scion you just accused of rape based on fabricated text messages.

Oh he absolutely was. But the biggest thing he was wrong about was whether it was a hill Gaiman was willing to die upon.

The only thing I’m willing to conclude is that Gaiman’s next move will be carefully considered and advised by very good lawyers.

No, but he has enough money that he doesn’t need them to. But ask Todd McFarlane whether he inherited his father’s litigiousness.

I am not confident that he sexually assaulted anyone. But he clearly had a sexual relationship with his kid’s fucking nanny, and that’s at best a catastrophic lapse of judgment, and “at best” is quite optimistic based on the last fifty times a powerful man did this sort of shit.

There’s a lot that’s deeply dubious about this Gaiman story, but if you think establishment dinosaurs like Johnson and Harding are going to run fabricated text messages from a Scientology scion they’re accusing of rape you’re delusional.

There’s a world of difference between a fake historian quote about an archaeology story and fabricated texts from a world famous author being accused of rape. These are people who understand how not to eat a historically massive libel conviction.

Yeah, the UK media’s ethics are a fucking toilet. But the libel laws are such that their evils have particular shapes. Much like the Empire, there’s a lot of “ah but we have an elaborate code governing our evils so it’s ok.”

Yeah, to be clear I’m skeptical of most of this because of the source. Which is evil, pursuing this to do harm, framing it appallingly, and doing a bad job of presenting it. I don’t trust most of the details. But I still don’t think they fabricated texts, and those confirm the relationship itself.

It’s a UK right wing upstart outlet, but it’s got a former BBC exec at the head and Boris Johnson’s sister as the lead reporter on this. So, terrible people, but not going to fabricate text messages. Which only validates a small part of the accusations, but it’s a pretty key and bad part.

Scummy as the podcast is, the names attached are not so reckless as to fabricate WhatsApp messages, so I’m willing to treat the direct quotes from them as accurate.

In the specific case of Eccleston I have a lot of sympathy all around, because the issues seem to have basically come down to “it was just a huge production on a comparative shoestring budget done by people working at a scale they’d never done before.”

Pretty much every move I’ve ever made in comics since age 25 has been inspired by the 70-year-olds I saw in comic con Artist Alleys, cranking out sketches of characters they created but don’t own, to pay their doctor bills and nursing home fees.

One of the interesting things about the Internet is that we’re actually living through a dark age. Future historians are unlikely to have records of this period.

Difficult to quite express my absolute rage at anyone who looks at a rich and powerful man initiating a sexual relationship with an employee who’s a third his age and goes “you know what’s really fucked up here? It was kinky sex.”

I think it's significant, though, that both of those fetishes are, in fact, widely viewed as repulsive. Like, even if it's not what the fetishization is about, it still seems to be a requirement.
