So I decide to just call the company and they have no record of the person I'm talking to, nor does anyone at the company use a "@hr-company.com" email. The last email was clearly one step away from asking for my legit personal info like SSN and or banking info to set up direct deposit.

And then I see the email which is "@hr-company.com" instead of "HR@company.com" like stated on the companies website. Do a DNS look up and it seems like it is registered in the same state/city as one of the companies main offices but no name tied to it.

at this point I don't even really know what the role is, I know basics like "Design in CAD", "Prefom Engineering tasks", etc etc all that shit but like no idea of what sort of projects I'm going to be working on.

He stressed during the call and in the first email at the speed in which they needed to fill the role so it might just be a quick hire. It was apparently, no one else spoke to me, no talks with my hiring manager or teammates and then I received an offer email this morning 20% over asking.

We covered the most vague of pre-clearance questions, nothing technical, before we went over time and after I had the most CHATGPT coded email sent me including a questionairre to fill out the rest of the questions we didn't get to and a request for my portfolio.

Probably just experienced one of the most insidious job- hunting phishing scams I've ever heard about. I applied to the only remote job posting (first red flag) on a job board for a relatively large well known company and got a call a few days later.
