Just finished The Best of Richard Matheson short story collection and I feel very dumb for not having read any Matheson before this, even though I've watched all the Twilight Zone episodes and many movies based on his work. Same. Catholic school K-8. Watched Family Ties and thought Alex P. Keaton rebelling against his hippie parents was cool. Wore dress shirts and loafers. First election was '92, voted for Bush, same year I started college. Never voted for a Republican since.

3/Speaking mom's side, this is her mother's brother John. He passed before I was born, but I heard stories about his childhood. Was warned not to play with an axe in the garage. "If you get hurt, don't come crying," he was told. Of course, he cut off half a finger, showed his dad but refused to cry.

2/...I was born, so finding this picture of my great grandparents Donato and Marie born in Italy in the 1890s but immigrated to the US as teens was really cool. There is something about that formal, unsmiling portrait style of the time that is so unique.

1/Visited my parents in Florida last week and dug through folders of old pictures for a family tree project I’m working on. My dad’s side has longevity (grandma just turned 100), but my mom’s side has a number of young deaths from war and disease. All of my mom’s grandparents passed before...

Every music genre/scene goes through revivals. Very happy that some kids from Minnesota have decided to put their spin on the 90s indie pop sound of Superchunk or Sloan. I’m a sucker for harmonized boy/girl vocals over loud guitars.

For me, depends on the quality of the pineapple. Dump out a can of big chunks of mushy pineapples, no thanks. Carve up an actual pineapple, maybe give it a quick grill, a nice dice, now we’re talking.

Family and I are in Florida visiting my parents. I’m going though old photos to work on our family tree. I found this picture of my dad that looks like the hippie rookie cop in the early 70s who gets paired with a strait-laced veteran that calls the youth “no good punks.”

For the average listener, no. But for an avid listener, my biggest issue is on the production/mastering end. It started in the 2000s when everyone started brickwalling the final master. The new Pearl Jam has good songs, but every instrument is LOUD and the drums have zero room to breathe.

If MTV let me reboot Unplugged, I'm booking these artists right out of the gate: Guided By Voices Brian Eno Ghost Run The Jewels Marcus King Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and other pop artists would be obvious choices, but Unplugged was a balance of popular and legendary.

The fact they booked artists like Tony Bennett, KISS, Arrested Development, etc made that show fun. Seeing artists out of their element but still delivering. Also, Pearl Jam’s performance of Black is an all-timer.

My music purchases have declined as I’ve gotten older, but I still buy physical media to support artists since I rarely go to shows anymore. Also, I don’t trust streaming will be around forever, and there’s plenty of stuff I own that has never made it to streaming.

This speech should be rewritten for every environment. "I don't like snow. It's cold and wet, and you have to buy a special coat and hat to stay warm. Not like you. You're warm and don't make me buy special hats.
