Please share and use: a spreadsheet documenting the cuts announced by 87 (!) US universities & colleges during the 2023-24 academic year … so far. A long, dispiriting list of college closures, faculty/staff layoffs, academic program eliminations, and significant budget cuts.

FYI. Here in Pennsylvania we had a major overhaul of the public university system (PASSHE) over the last few years that is still ongoing. radio.wpsu.org/education/20...
thanks you SO much for pulling this together! Could we add a link to this at the bottom of our page keeping track of the UK cuts?
Much solidarity; it's a lot, existing in this sector right now.
As a Birmingham-Southern alum, dispiriting only feels like the beginning. A direct and destructive attack on the very concept of education by our ascendant reactionary lordly class.
It’s depressing, but I hope it’s helpful to have this information in one place. It’s a spreadsheet—but I’m an English professor, so the data tell stories. Which programs are eliminated? With what patterns of justification from university management? Which kinds of institutions, in which regions? 2/
I’m not sure what the source for UT Austin was. And I don’t think we have an official number of layoffs (or volunteer departures from jobs that were then disappeared) before 1/1/24. Hartzell said 49 staff layoffs in April (effective 4/5). 8 asst and assoc deans back to FT teaching.
What's crazy is that they tell us they are cutting because of low enrollment, yet evidence in the ACTUAL WORLD says that increasing funding increases enrollment. www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...
Here's info about my institution, CUNY, where we can't get copy machine toner. I hate it so much. Please add if you can, I am terrible at spreadsheets and would probably erase yours
