I’m deeply unhappy with the assumption by many young people that being 80+ means you don’t have a functioning brain. I spend a lot of time with my almost 80 mom. She has more energy than I do. Harris is there for a reason. It’s not an ideal situation but that is a B longstanding Dem problem.

I kind of disagree. Yeah, his people should have done better. He was totally unprepared for the Trump psychopathy and couldn’t adapt (which isn’t great). It’s really really hard when your opponent follows no rules—should have prepped for that but I think it caught them off guard (not great, I know).

I’m in Texas so my vote for president doesn’t matter. But, gotta say, I am really really angry right now. I would still vote D if I were in a swing state but I’m an academic who is used to sucking it up and doing the icky thing because not doing it would be worse.

There are. There are also a lot of very pro-Biden folks, including those who voted in primaries, whose reaction to him getting pushed out is probably not going to be great. It’s v hard to know what D voters will do, much less swing voters who will decide the election.

This is exactly it. The youngest voters were in high school and college and, I suspect, fairly insulated from a lot unless they were political nerds. Most were playing soccer and going to homecoming or frat parties or whatever.

If he actually was senile, the rebels in the D party would have turned in him long ago, leaked all sorts of stuff. Freaking Mitch McConnell freezes up and we all recognize it is recovery from a TBI. Biden doesn’t wear fake tanning crap so he’s pale and old and, by extension, incompetent.

This. He was likely tired but the biggest problem was that he was not at all prepared for a non-debate with a screaming psychopath who was not answering questions. And he got rattled. It wasn’t great but it was far from evidence of senility. Yeah, he looks old. He US old. But he’s not senile.

I am also aware that there is nothing I can personally do to stop this nightmare from continuing to unfold. I paused all my streaming for the summer to focus on writing. It’s really tempting to hide out in a cave of ignorance and just write about 3rd-5th c dudes and their antics.

I closed my eyes quickly and imagined myself being in wide open space and really tried hard to ignore where I was and listen to the rhythm of the banging. It was manageable but yeah, not fun. And I’m not claustrophobic.

Upside: MRI only 40 minutes and I had T Swift blasting in my ears. Downside: holy moly, my brain feels like it’s been scrambled. Also, 40 minutes in a tiny tube is not easy, even when you aren’t claustrophobic. Near the end I was definitely thinking about escaping.
