I am very glad that such an important figure in queer history did not die violently and alone at the hands of the Nazis, but rather got to live out her life as her true gender, experience joy and beauty and laughter, and died at an old age, of natural causes, recognized as who she truly was.

Dora Rudolfine Richter died of natural causes, April 26, 1966 at the age of 74. She was buried April 29 at 10:30 AM. The graveyard where she was buried was reclaimed in 1998 and her grave no longer exists. However all indications are that she was buried as a woman, under the name she chose.

She returned to Germany and lived in the town of Allersberg in Bavaria with her brother. Older residents of the town were interviewed and believed they remembered her!

During this time it appears she urgently sought to correct her baptismal papers to reflect that she was a woman, and her papers were legally ammended to reflect that she was born a woman, named Dora Rudolfine Richter.

German LGBTQ historian Clara Hartmann has recently found more evidence that Dora Richter survived the Nazi era and the War. She was deported from Czechoslovakia in 1946 for being ethnically German.

For many years Dora Richter was assumed to have died during or shortly after the May 6th raid. However recently records were found indicating that she survived the raid, fleeing to Bohemia, part of the Sudetenland. Records show that she was living in Bohemia in 1939, in the town where she was born.

After the Nazis took power they acted swiftly against the Institute. On May 6, 1933, while Hirschfeld was in France, a group of Nazi students and SA thugs invaded the institute, ransacked it, and stole the majority of the library's contents. People affiliated with the Institute were sent to camps.

Hirschfeld's Institute was the subject of many attacks by the growing Nazi party in the 1920s and early 30s. As a gay Jewsish socialist who publicly criticized the Nazi party and promoted "degenerate" gay and trans lifestyles, Hirschfeld was one of the Nazis' biggest public enemies.

Dora's surgeries constitute the first known vaginoplasty surgery, and records of her operations would contribute greatly to the development of modern vaginoplasty techniques in the 1950s.

In 1922 she received an orchiectomy, and began working at the Institute with other queer people as a housekeeper. She became friends with Hirschfeld, who referred to her affectionately as "Dorchen". Starting in 1923 she received a number of experimental surgeries, culminating in a penectomy in 1931.

After the war she heard about Magnus Hirschfeld's Insitute for Sex Research in Berlin, and decided to move there. In Berlin she was arrested several times for crossdressing. By 1922 she had made the acquaintance of Magnus Hirschfeld and sought surgery to change her anatomy.

She worked as a baker, performed in a theater troupe, and did craftwork like knitting and lace. In 1916 during WW1 she was drafted into the German Army, but was discharged after just two weeks, probably for being hellaciously queer.

Dora Richter was born in 1892 in the town of Seifen, Bohemia, then part of the German Empire and today a part of the Czech Republic. She acted, presented, and identified as a woman from a very young age. At the age of six she tried to remove her penis with a tourniquet.

Problem is he flubbed it. If he talks about withdrawing from Afghanistan as a positive, every news channel will show footage of people clinging to the airplane wheels as US personnel evacuate. Even when he does a good thing, it's done poorly.

Thanks ☺️ It was a collaborative effort. My wife deserves most of the credit for the fine detail, but I figured out the process for getting the clean white, and had the patience to carefully wick wash into each nook and panel line :p
