I read an urban fantasy novel called Kraken by China Mieville where (spoiler, but not a major one to the plot) one of the characters has created a transporter and is haunted by the ghosts of all his previous selves who used it.
Honestly even just having my luggage beamed would make travel so much more pleasant. Not having to shlep the suitcase through the airport, or jam my backpack under the seat in front of me...
Them: “No, no, hear us out; the machine disassembles you at an atomic level”
Me: “& then I’m dead…”
🤡: “No! You’re not listening! It transmits that information…”
🤷🏻♀️: “…my shredded body…”
🤡: “will you let us finish!? It reassembles you…”
🤷🏻♀️: “…creates a new version of me out of the wreckage, got it”
