Bad TTRPG Take Thursday: Whenever 'My character wouldn't do this' stops you from doing something fun and interesting just rewrite your character. Play the game and make up a motivation later. There are no bonus XP for writing yourself into a corner.

I enjoyed the mechanics in both Divinity games but I found the plots to be convoluted and impersonal and honestly not one single NPC likeable. The cosmic scale and stakes did not really work for me, why was my character even doing all this?

Yeah, Tod is damn good at doing 'Weapon physics are interesting!' without the whole 'Hurhurr, violence is awesome and manly!' shite other sword nerds do. Also he does good work with sources and context.

Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck's actual name in the entirely fictional Red Book of Westmarch was Kalimac Brandagamba and 'Kali', in the fictional Westron language, means 'jolly' or 'gay'. So Tolkien called him Merry. Because Merry = gay. Ergo: Disliking Merry, kinda problematic.
