So what does that have to do with property values increasing? Wouldn’t it be better to just stay in the home you have, instead of expecting to sell your house for a significant retirement-on profit?

If someone thinks they can sell a place in the city and get a bigger place with some land in the country, I can see how that'd be an incentive to want your property values to keep going up.
