2000 started with George W Bush being handed the Presidency by the SCOTUS. Dipshit was President for 9/11. Invaded a country on false pretenses. Thousands died in 2 wars. He still won re-election. Economy collapsed and we had over 10% unemployment. Gas at 4.50 a gallon. Tell me about the 2020s.

In 2004 (the only point that it makes sense to really look at in comparison) public sentiment for the war machine was still fairly high, we hadn’t hit the recession, and we didn’t have the hindsight of knowing for sure that they lied us into the war (those of us who claimed it were called crazy).
