I find blaming Netanyahu a bit facile. Israel has elected Likud PMs for over 2 decades, along with extremist parties. There is continuity of policy that goes very far back. For example, I doubt that Sharon would have acted any differently in this scenario.

In this circumstance, he is the one who is making the decision and publicly declaring that he will not agree to a permanent ceasefire, that's all. I do remember that the tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living, heh.

I agree it is facile. The rightward shift is maddening, but there are understandable reasons for it.
