I hate how much time it takes, but at this point, I keep a copy (and backups!) of anything I'll want to keep. Like, it'd be nice to use streaming services and have everyone share a single data source and not need to make copies of everything, but I don't trust having access to that stuff.

Not to mention the adage of not putting all of ones eggs in one basket goes double for electronic media. A single data source is a single point of failure that could disappear in a heartbeat. Just look at all the bricked IoT devices that died because their vendor failed & its systems were taken down
