Not to mention the adage of not putting all of ones eggs in one basket goes double for electronic media. A single data source is a single point of failure that could disappear in a heartbeat. Just look at all the bricked IoT devices that died because their vendor failed & its systems were taken down

I've kept most of my digital business records for 30 years and at least one of the machines I need to be able to read them. I have printed everything possible. It's not possible to print video. Digital preservation requires both the media and the tools to display it. It's not simple.

I'm with you there! One thing they can do as soon as they hit voting age is engage their bullshit detectors & turf the politicians who are enabling the problems. One of the best classes I took in uni was "Techniques of Persuasion" teaching how our buttons are pushed to our detriment & their benefit

This is where I have a small, boring bit of advice, from my time managing a customer contact centre for a central government department: write letters to your MP asking them to raise issues with secretaries of state; make the letters unique, not copy-and-paste campaigns; be direct, not cranky.
