I think WWW is a happy ending for the spider story, as it's one of the few things that actually works for the concept. Miguelito Loveless definitely would have had a giant mechanical spider on the 60s show if it had been feasible at the time.

The spider looks impressive I guess but it does not seem like a practical war machine, as evidenced by the fact that the heroes defeat it pretty easily.
