I'm beginning to think that Nintendo's decision not to release a new episode of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games in 2024 was a bad omen.

It's interesting to look through an issue of Beep from 1986. It talks about Mark III, Super Cassette Vision, Commodore 64, Amiga, Atari XE, TTRPG, etc.

A graphic designer working on the title screen of Alex Kidd in Miracle World. My guess is that it's either Matilda Yoko / Yoko K, or Rieko Kodama (who did the logo).

A few details about Blast Wind, via former Technosoft developer Yuzawara: it was location tested under this name, then, after changes were made to the game, it was renamed Inazuma Saber and was location tested again. For the Saturn version, the game reverted to its original name.

In France, the vast majority of the mainstream media were predicting a far-right victory, and local "analysts" (most of them right-wing or even far-right) all seemed disconcerted by the results. Nevertheless, it was a bitter victory, with the rise of the far right and an increase in racist crime.

The choice of a rally game is explained by the fact that there was no other 3D game in this niche, and it would have been really unfortunate for Sega to be beaten to the punch by another company.

The origin of the project explains the fact that the scouting was organized in North America (Yosemite park, etc.). The game was originally intended to feature 4 cars, but the developers didn't have time to create the 2 other vehicles.

Sega Rally was in fact a game about driving through the United States at the start of development, with a Route 66 feel. It may remind you of Outrun, but it was another game that prompted Sega to backtrack in a hurry: Cruis'n USA, which was presented at CES in January 1994.

The 3D elements were drawn using software running on X68000, the same software that seems to have been used for the game's intro, with a fairly low resolution. As with the Saturn version, and unlike Thunder Force IV, there was no vertical scrolling.

the action begins on a moon with a golden sky, then the player's ship crosses the stratosphere, revealing a planet of ice. Then comes the boss, a new version of Gargoyle (already present in Thunder Force III and IV) in non-textured 3D.

Development of the Mega Drive version of Thunder Force V was very short, taking place somewhere between late 1993 and 1994. Only 2 people worked on the project: Kubo and a programmer. In 2 days of intense work, Kubo designed the first and only level, which he compared to Metal Black:

Technosoft used X68000s as workstations, the same computers that Kubo would use for Thunder Force V. The project seems to have followed the development of 3 arcade games made simultaneously in 1993: Inazuma Saber, Nekketsu Oyako and Hyper Duel.
