I feel like it's a bit like spoiling the joke? I've always enjoyed revisiting a work and picking out things I missed before bc now I've seen the show, heard the song, whatever. To me the point is the discovery, not having it explained.

Fair enough, and I don't want to spoil anyone else's fun. At this point I think for myself I've gotten all I can, so when someone points out a new-to-me reference it's a treat (as with the Blues Brothers reference that started this discussion.) To each their own, I firmly believe.
