People have thought of this--and it doesn't work.

1. Plants are the most efficient, cost-effective "solar cells" in existence.

2. Unfortunately, there are more brownfields (dead fields) than could ever be covered with solar, so no reason to use arable land for solar.

Is there a simple way to calculate how much nitrogen in the soil would be reduced by using solar energy instead of biomass as a fuel?
