I do feel like if someone was to like, do a seance, raise the dead etc to actually ask the founders the answer would usually be “you did *what* now???”

I seriously doubt it. The founders were white, male, slave-banging landlords who did not want women, Blacks, and the poor to even vote. "More effective killing machines? Could have been handy in 1776." The modern Republicans would probably get a nod of approval from them.
