Astronomer here! I’m a Hungarian-American radio astronomer at the Center for Astrophysics |Harvard & Smithsonian, alias /r/Andromeda321 on Reddit.
NGL, pretty excited to move to a city where the leading news headlines are about busting a Lego theft ring AND the local news media chooses this as their leading photo for coverage 😆

One week from now we’ll be on a plane for our cross country move to Oregon with an 8 month old baby and two cats. Not panicked, but let’s just say I’m displaying an appropriate amount of concern for the situation at hand. 😰

Totally normal to sing your baby the Monty Python “Galaxy Song” as a lullaby, right? Asking for me 😅

I don’t think who won matters but in our social media world, you’re now going to see short clips from the debate attacking the other candidate to November and I’m already tired thinking about it

When they’re tearing up the road in front of your office so you go disappear into the Widener Library stacks for some quiet…
I’m gonna miss a lot when I move next month but access to the largest private library in the world will definitely be high on the list!

The more I’m in astronomy the more that I’m amazed people can spend millions of dollars to develop and build an instrument that they claim they want everyone to use, and proceed to make so many roadblocks that it’s clear they don’t actually want anyone to use the telescope. 😒

So does it count as crawling when baby’s figured out how to lie on her back and push herself across the floor w her feet? I feel this is like learning to swim by doing a backstroke first…

Hello world! Was on Al Jazeera English earlier today to talk about Boeing Starliner’s never-ending delays. 🚀🧪🔭
Might be on tomorrow if they’re successful but I’ve also got Red Sox tickets at Fenway, so ya know, priorities 😅

Packing has begun, and tickets purchased. We are officially moving to Eugene, Oregon on July 17!
(Some folks assumed I was already there. I deferred my start date a year to have my baby, bc the “move at six months pregnant to a city without support network” didn’t sound ideal.)

Funny thing about that swag bag btw was it included a SIRTF polo shirt very clearly for a man and nowhere near my size. It started a long tradition of me gifting my dad polo shirts at all the science facilities I’ve been to that never had shirts for women.

Old blast from the past- a giant SIRTF patch (later renamed Spitzer Telescope!) w tissue pack for scale. I got it as a swag bag for entering a naming contest for SIRTF at age 15, and being one of the top 10 finalists!

No, we already know this object and have it named as it’s been studied for several years. I’m just not publicly naming it yet while we are actively following up. :)

Discovered a new black hole that "burped" several years after eating a star (aka TDE) that is radio bright now after *years* of being quiet! These images are a ~year apart, and there's def something in the green circle that wasn't there before!
Coordinating follow-up now- wish us luck! 🤩

A lot of folks are asking if we'll get a repeat of last night's aurora for tonight. No guarantees, but the storm is ongoing so my guess is yes! If it's clear, wait until it's dark (1.5 hours or after sunset) and look north (unless you're in Oz/NZ/etc then look south).
