It's not the content - the business model went away. First Craig killed classifieds - then ad exchanges made it possible to target the newspaper demo at scale, at a fraction of the cost of print, and with real time feed back. Vinyl made a comeback so I won't say never, but not looking good.

Relatives from rural MO came to visit SF - wanted a cheap motel to stay in - sent them to Lombard one of the safest urban places in the US. They thought they were in a war zone and when pressed it was because the front desk staff spoke english as a second language.

Yeah that is not the way it works in practice. She is pretty much the smartest person I know - she was moving from LA so it's not like they made it difficult for her because they thought she was coming from a CA. She is registered now but she had to be motivated and able to take time off of work.

Friend moved to TX and they wouldn't accept the closing documents on her house as proof of residency. She had to take a day off of work to get registered. Not like it used to be.

The goal of UBI should be lower the poverty rate from 11% to 2%. Instead of holding people in a cycle of predatory lending + all the other costs of being poor. It would also create saving in other social programs. Finally the upper tax rate could go up from 32% to 38% not just on billionaires.

That is the name I couldn't remember. I loved the story about the guy who filled baseball bats and pretended to be part of the American team at thePan America games. He told the story after he made it through the border but didn't realize baseball wasn't a sport in the Pan America games.

I read a book on the early days of coke smuggling where they gave away a free trip to Columbia. Gave the winners all kind of fake company tschokies filled with coke. Then the winners had to come in for a photo shoot back in NY with the tschokies which were traded out during the shoot.

Purchase history targeting is fairly new. Buy a Hilton Head shirt your going to get NC Tourism ads. Buy a book on wills and are low income you will get inheritance lender ads. Amazon limits the medical purchases targeting, but once growth stops and the shitification starts that will go away.
