😁 One of my former bosses used to start all her emails with a nameless “Hi there” because she was afraid of exactly this. I may have inherited the habit myself.

😂 I bounce things off AIs sometimes and end up overclarifying that I'm a writer, this is for a story, it's fictional, just a what-if, just a character, not me, don't alert the authorities.

Yup! In early drafts, I'm still working things out myself, so there's a lot of circularity. I also omit essential words. I really rely on beta readers and editors to catch these things. I simply can't see them. It's odd and frustrating. I'm a copy editor by day! I should be able catch typos! 😂

Thanks! Yeah, I think that was part of it—in a way. I was worried about opening their old wounds. Turns out, though, it didn’t open wounds; it confirmed they’d healed. My question wasn’t just “Are you OK if I write this?” but “Are you OK?” The answer was yes. So I’m glad I asked. For both of us.

Thanks for this! I don’t write nonfiction but struggle with similar questions. I was reflecting on the difficulty I had with finishing a very personal (very encoded) short story. Midway through, I talked with the person involved in the real story. They were really supportive. It was just accepted!

The third entry in my business lingo trilogy, formerly TBD, became D last night.

Proud of this one. Proud of the others, but this one took me a year to write, and the subject is kind of a big deal. Can't think of a better home for it than Pangyrus!
