Is it just me, or am I crazy to believe the founders' actual intent was for future generations to interpret the Constitution in the context of their time and not the founders' time? The system seems set up to ignore the wishes of the long dead.

I think it more simply was set up to give them room to tweak that new system as needed, with a hope it would last for a while but also a real sense it could all fall apart or be taken from them if they weren’t careful. I think they had foresight but not generations deep foresight.

You can go and read Blackstone. Commentaries came out during the revolutionary period and has basically been the foundation of American jurisprudential thinking from then until about the early 20th century. It does not make that argument.
